Located in Northern Italy on the shores of the Po River and capital to the Piedmont region, Turin was an important crossroad for travelers from West of Italy into Eastern Europe. Whomever controlled Turin controlled the routes from France and Spain into Italy and beyond. Throughout its history, it has passed between different political powers throughout Europe.
